Year 3

Year 3 - Mystery Package

In Year 3, we were very surprised to discover a mystery package in the forest! We had to be very careful around the unusual box and Mrs Percy made sure the package was carefully handled. We have had lots of discussions around where the box might have come from and what might be inside... We are going to write to York Press to inform them about our exciting discovery!

Year 3 - Woodpecker - Stone Age Stew

In Woodpeckers we have been learning all about the Stone Age and how early Brits lived. We researched into what cavemen ate and we discovered that they enjoyed cooking a Stone Age stew. Therefore, we set off on a caveman hunt around the school to find and catch all of the ingredients that was needed to create the delicious meal.

Year 3 - Woodpecker - Diwali

Within RE we have learnt all about the Diwali festival and we discovered the beautiful rangoli patterns that are used throughout the Diwali celebration. We therapeutically painted our very own patterns and some are now hanging beautifully on the walls in our corridor learning area!

Year 3 - Magpie - Diwali

In Magpie class we have been learning about Diwali! Diwali is a five-day festival celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains around the world, it is also called the Festival of Light! We created our own Rangoli patterns using paint. When our paintings are finished, they are going to be framed and put-on display in our new working space!

Year 3 - Magpie and Woodpecker - Children in Need competition

To celebrate Children in Need, we took part in the Joe Wicks 24-hour PE challenge! We had a competition against Woodpecker class to see which class would be crowned the sports champions! We took part in a game of basketball followed by a penalty shootout! Reuben scored the winning penalty and Magpie class were crowned the winners!

Year 3 - Magpie - Stone Age Poo!

In Magpie class, we have been investigating prehistoric poo samples to learn more about the Stone Age diet. We worked in groups to dissect the samples and discussed the items included. We then thought carefully about why these food items were including in their diet. We had a very gross but fun afternoon!

Year 3 - Woodpecker - Halloween

Look at what we've been up in Woodpecker class if you dare!!! To celebrate Halloween we dressed up in our scariest outfits which left Miss Poulter shaking at the knees! We also had great fun making and designing our very own spooky pop out cards which we took home to surprise our family and friends.

Year 3 - Magpie - Halloween Party!

In Magpie class, to celebrate completing our reading chart, we had a Halloween party! We dressed up in some amazing Halloween costumes and decorated the classroom with some spooky accessories. We listened to some spooky stories, made Halloween pop-up cards and danced the afternoon away!

Year 3 - Magpie - Magpie Reading

In Magpie class, we have all been working extremely hard to finish our reading chart and we are all so thrilled to discover we have finished in 4th place! Mr McGann set us all a challenge to complete the chart by Monday, which we achieved! He has rewarded us with Ronnie the rhino! We also have a very special Halloween party on Friday to celebrate our success!

Year 3 - Woodpeckers - Hello Yellow

In Woodpeckers class, we thoroughly enjoyed celebrating mental health awareness day by all dressing up in our fantastic vibrant yellow outfits! We also had lots of fun reading the book ‘The Dot’ by Peter H. Reynolds which taught us that it is OK to make mistakes and that mistakes can help us gain confidence and take risks. We used our own dot to create some marvellous and unique pieces of art!

Year 3 - Woodpeckers - Cave Paintings

This half term in Woodpeckers we have started learning about the Stone Age and what life was like 12,000 years ago! We have researched into the cave paintings that archaeologists have discovered and we have made our very own using natural materials such as dirt!!

Year 3 - Magpie - Hello Yellow

In Magpie class, we created our own dot inspired art work from the book, 'The Dot' by Peter Reynolds. The book taught us that it is okay to make mistakes and that mistakes can help us gain confidence and take risks. We loved seeing how everyone's dot was adapted and changed into something wonderful!

Year 3 - Magpie - Completing our cave paintings

In Magpie class, we have been making our very own cave paintings. Last week, we prepared our canvas by staining paper with tea and mud. This week, we used paint and our fingers to create our own artistic designs!

Year 3 - Magpie - Cave painting preparations

This week in Art, we have been making preparations for our very own cave paintings. We decided to tea stain our paper to create an old looking effect. We also used mud and gravel to create texture. Once our paper has dried, we are going to add on our own animal illustrations using mud and sticks!

Year 3 - Magpie - Senses Walk

This week in English, we are writing our very own Autumn senses poem! We went on an adventure in the forest to think about what we could see, hear, touch and smell. We found lots of wonderful things to write about in our poem, including the howling wind and rustling leaves.
