Some of our pupils may need a little extra help and this is where our Special Educational and Disability (SEND) support comes in. Each child with additional needs is offered different support tailored to meet their needs. Staff at Woodthorpe work closely with our children, their parents and, where appropriate, outside agencies, to develop each child’s individual support package.
Our SEND Report outlines how we identify support and monitor the progress of our children with additional needs.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact our Special Educational Needs Coordinator Mrs Elsworth, who will be more than happy to help.
Please also take a look at the following documents:
York’s Local Offer provides families, professionals, children and young people with Special Educational Needs, information regarding education, post 16 options, health services, parent and carer support, money advice, SEN guidance and information on Education, Health and Care Plans.

Complaints about SEN provision in your school should be made to the SENCO in the first instance:
She will endeavour to resolve any difficulties. If this does not resolve their concerns, parents are welcome to submit their complaint formally.
Formal complaints about SEN provision in each school should be made to the headteacher, Mr James McGann, in the first instance. They will be handled in line with the Trust’s complaints policy which can be found on Our Policies page.
#WPSYY2 were kept extremely busy during their day at Ripon Museum and showed great perseverance, whilst working in the laundry room and washing all of the Victorian clothes. #WPSYHistory #Woodthorpecharacter
Year 2 had a wonderful day last week at Ripon Museum. We started our day, in the Victorian school room and showed great determination during our handwriting lesson. #WPSYY2 #WPSYHistory #Woodthorpecharacter
To finish off our science topic ‘seasonal changes’, Year 1 proudly presented their own weather forecast! We used our prior knowledge of measuring the temperature and stating the different types of weather. ☀️ 💨 🌧️ #WPSYY1 #WPSYScience #Woodthorpecharacter
Would we have liked to go to school in the past? #WPSYY2 enjoyed finding out about Victorian classrooms; chanting times tables, practising our reading and writing on slate instead of paper. We were very respectful to the school mistress! #WPSYHistory #woodthorpecharacter
