Our uniform

School Uniform and Appearance Policy

Our school uniform is important to us. It is one way in which we identify ourselves as a school family and it promotes a strong, cohesive school identity which supports high standards and expectations in all areas of school life.

All uniform should be named and labelled.

At Woodthorpe Primary School, we believe that a school uniform is important, because it:

  • looks smart
  • wears well
  • contributes to a sense of belonging
  • gives a common purpose
  • fosters a feeling of pride
  • reduces ‘fashion competition’ between children.

All children should wear the uniform and we encourage them to maintain an acceptable standard of clean and tidy dress in school. It reflects the needs of pupils at Woodthorpe Primary School.

Our School Uniform

  • Black or grey trousers or shorts, grey skirt or pinafore dress red gingham dress.
  • Plain or embroidered with logo white or red polo shirt or plain white button shirt.
  • Red jumper or cardigan with or without logo.
  • Dark coloured or white socks or plain grey, black or red tights.

Footwear

  • Low-heeled dark coloured shoes or boots suitable for active play or trainers.
  • Open-toed sandals should not be worn, even in the Summer Term for health and safety reasons

PE and Games Kit

  • Trainers or plimsolls should be worn, or bare feet for gymnastics only.
  • A plain white polo shirt or T-shirt should be worn with plain dark shorts in summer. In winter plain tracksuits may be worn.

The kit should be kept in school and taken home at the end of term to be washed.

Fashion items

Children are not permitted to wear jewellery in school. If ears have been pierced, stud earrings may be worn, but should be removed for PE. If a child needs to wear a piece of jewellery for medical or religious reasons, it should be removed or covered up during physical activity.

We believe that fashion items are best kept for home, and for reasons such as health, safety and inclusion fashion accessories such as make-up, nail polish, jewellery other than stud earrings should not be worn.

Sunhats should be worn outside during sunny weather. Long hair on both girls and boys, should be tied back neatly, hair must be neat and tidy and ‘natural’.

Non-Compliance with the School Uniform Policy

The school behaviour policy may be considered where breaches of this policy are ‘persistent and defiant’.  A copy of the policy can be requested from the school office.

Ordering school uniform

Please see the following information from NextGen Clothing, our school uniform provider, and their handy welcome guides.

Dear Parent

NextGen Clothing have been invited by Woodthorpe Primary School to take over supply of school uniform and to provide a facility that gives you more choice about what and when to buy.

We provide a dedicated website – www.school-shop.co.uk – where you can buy uniform online, which displays the specific products for your individual school. This is easily accessed by the “Find my School” navigation on the home page. We also offer a comprehensive range of school uniform items, from skirts and trousers through to blazers & bags. All of which can be ordered online ANYTIME through our 100% secure, easy to use online shop. We also take orders by phone, email or fax; taking payment over the phone should you wish to order in any of these ways.

The only change for you is the way that you order your uniform. It won’t cost you more than it does at present because there are NO DELIVERY CHARGES (*from September 2013 due to the recent steep rise in postal charges by ROYAL MAIL we will be introducing a small order charge of £1.25p for orders under £20.00 to cover this increase) and we charge the same price as the school currently charges. Better still, you aren’t restricted to school hours for placing your order.

Sizing guides are shown against all products, so you know that you can order the correct size for your child with confidence, or you can call us for any advice regarding sizing.

We want to make this new system as easy as possible for parents and the school. If you have any questions or concerns then please feel free to contact either myself or Peter Dalton for assistance. You can reach us on 01904 607331 or by email to sales@school-shop.co.uk. We are available from 7am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

Below is an easy, step by step guide of how to use the online ordering system.

Log onto http://www.school-shop.co.uk

On the left hand side is the main navigation bar & above this is a box titled “Find my School”. Drop down the list of schools to find *INSERT SCHOOL NAME*. Click on your school name and all your products will load

Click on the product you want to buy. All the instructions for buying are self-explanatory. Click the back button to return to the main products

When you have chosen all the items you need, proceed to the checkout. You can either register and save your details for a future visit, or you can use an express checkout

If you have any special delivery instructions, such as “Leave at back of house” or “Leave with a neighbour” make sure you include these. Unless the courier is told to leave the parcel elsewhere, they will have to take it away

We accept all major credit & debit cards and you will receive an automated confirmation of your order

You will receive another e-mail when you order is despatched and depending upon how we despatch the package you may receive an e-mail from the MyHermes courier network advising of the delivery date

We hold stock of all the embroidered school uniform products so delivery should usually be between 3-5 days depending on the volume of orders we have in the system, summer months being our busiest period. Other items from the site, such a PE shorts, trousers, shirts, skirts etc. may need to be ordered in, so your order will take slightly longer to arrive to you.

Yours sincerely,
